The following programs were either co-written or fully written by NRG Resources:
Oil Burner Technician Manuals and Programs
This series of training manuals is employed by most of the training providers offering fuel oil certification courses in Ontario. A key aspect of the development included the creation of an oil training lab at Kemptville College (south of Ottawa, Ontario). This facility is still the premier training site for oil technicians across Canada.
The Oil Burner Technician Manuals are sold by TSSA but the expertise of developing further oil training programs and facilities now resides within NRG Resources.
NRG Resources has developed and delivered an OBT3/2 training program for skilled HVAC technicians with G.2 or G.1 certification. The training program has been accredited by TSSA and is currently being delivered at U.A.Local 46 and U.A.Local 787 in Toronto. NRG Resources has assisted both training providers with the building of their oil labs and provided train-the-trainer programs.
NRG’s OBT-3/-2 Training Program for skilled HVAC technicians has been updated to address the massive changes in the B139-15 Code. The training program is available for use by other accredited training providers or by individuals wanting to challenge the OBT-3 and/or OBT-2 training requirements.
NRG Resources is currently developing the OBT-1 Training Program for use at U.A.Local 46 in Toronto.
Oil Pipe Fitter Manual and Program
In Ontario, an Oil Pipe Fitter (OP) certificate allows the holder to work on fuel oil supply systems of any size. NRG Resources developed a complete training program for the Ontario Pipe Trades Council and Mechanical Contractors Association of Ontario in 2004 with an updated edition created in 2007. It was approved by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) for use by UA training facilities to meet the Ontario requirements for certification as an OP. The training program material includes two texts: Oil Pipe Fitter Manual: This coil bound text has over 280 pages of information and graphics organized in four chapters entitled: Chapter 1: Fuel Oil Properties Chapter 2: Laws Governing the Fuel Oil Industry Chapter 3: Storage Systems Chapter 4: Oil Supply Systems Instructor’s Guide: This binder includes annotated PowerPoint slides for each chapter along with lecture notes, equipment lists, resource material, scheduling suggestions, and other training tips. The training Material can be used as a resource by individuals or as an “off-the-shelf” program to train skilled pipe tradesmen to work safely, effectively, & efficiently on fuel oil supply systems. Please contact us for more information on the Oil Pipe Fitter Program.
Oil Installation and Code Review Programs for the Yukon Government
NRG Resources has developed a special relationship with two agencies of the Yukon Government – the Energy Solutions Centre and the Yukon Housing Corporation . Together we are improving the level of safety and knowledge related to fuel installations across the Yukon. Since May 2005, NRG Resources has developed and delivered five separate training programs for technicians and inspectors in the Yukon. These programs were entitled:
- Practical Guide to Safe Oil Installations
- Installation Codes for Furnaces and Boilers
- Combustion Tests for Oil-Burning Equipment
- Installation of Oil Burning Equipment
- Inspection of Fuel Oil Installations
This last program, delivered in January 2007, was informed by a survey of 55 oil installations conducted by NRG Resources for the Yukon government. The course, attended by contractors and government inspectors, included a review of inspection forms and protocols developed by NRG as well as a practical application of the inspection methods at two installations in the Yukon.
